DateIQ keeps a local copy of your matches and conversations so the coach, drafts, and Next Actions have full context. That copy lives in your browser — it's not on a DateIQ server, and Tinder doesn't see it. Here's how it gets populated and how to keep it fresh.
Auto-sync: just open Tinder
The first time you open tinder.com with the extension installed, DateIQ starts capturing data automatically. It does this by reading the same responses Tinder's own app is loading — your match list, your messages, profile bios, photos. No buttons, no permissions to grant, no API calls on your behalf.
Give it a minute on the matches page and a few seconds inside any individual chat you open. The sidebar's match list will fill in as it goes. Once it's all captured, everything works offline-style — you can browse, filter, and have the coach reason about your matches without re-loading Tinder.
Manual sync (when you want fresh data)
Tinder doesn't push us new matches; we catch them when its app fetches them. If you want the latest right now, open the People tab in the sidebar and use the Sync menu in the top right:
- Sync match list — opens (or refreshes) your matches page so Tinder re-fetches the list. New matches appear. Fast.
- Sync profile details — walks every match's chat to pull full bios and photos for ones we don't have yet. Slower; the dialog shows an ETA. Paced to look like normal browsing.
- Cancel running sync — stops a deep sync in progress. Matches already captured stay.
You don't usually need to babysit this. Open Tinder, glance at matches, browse a few chats — the sync happens.
What gets captured
- Match metadata (name, age, distance, what they're looking for, join date, last activity).
- Conversation history for every chat you've opened.
- Bio text and photos from profiles DateIQ has seen.
- Unmatch / ghost / reply state — used by Next Actions and filters.
What doesn't get captured
- Profiles you haven't matched with yet (only your matches' data).
- Anything from chats you've never opened with the extension active.
- Your Tinder password — DateIQ never sees it. The extension reads passively, not by logging in.
See Data & Privacy for the full picture of where data lives and how to delete it.
Troubleshooting
- No matches appearing — make sure you're on tinder.com (not a different dating app) and that the sidebar shows the green "connected" state. If not, refresh the Tinder tab.
- Old data, no new matches — run Sync match list from the People tab.
- Missing bio or photos — run Sync profile details. This catches matches whose profiles were never opened.
- Banner says "Open tinder.com so Dante can get started" — exactly what it says. Open a Tinder tab in the same browser.
Once data is in, the next step is teaching DateIQ your taste — see Training the Wingman.
